Meet Janna Irons and Johnny Stifter.
Former editors for different magazines in the same building, we met at the water cooler. Then we fell in love (aww). We spent two and a half years weekend-adventuring from our home base in Encinitas, California, before deciding to embark on a real adventure.
Johnny was raised in the Pacific Northwest on a healthy diet of skiing and nature. He spent his college years in Bozeman, where he received his degree from the surrounding mountains and Montana State University. From there, he freelanced, working for ESPN during the X Games for two years before landing his dream gig as an editor of POWDER Magazine in 2007. He spent three years as Editor-in-Chief, championing snow safety education, the introduction of interactive digital features, and leading the team to eight national magazine awards in three years. He is currently the Executive Producer of Powder Productions, POWDER's in-house production studio.
Born and raised on Kauai, Janna has always loved the ocean and outdoors. She received her Bachelor's degree in Communication from the University of California Santa Barbara before spending six years as an editor for SURFER Magazine. During that time she also earned a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies from San Diego State University and launched SALTED Magazine, a surf magazine for women. For the last year and a half she's worked as a Creative Strategist for thinkPARALLAX, a creative agency in San Diego, where she's worked on a variety of projects ranging from campaigns, print, web, strategy, and copywriting.
